About  Cadillac ELR

The Cadillac ELR was a luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) produced by General Motors under the Cadillac brand. It was based on the Chevrolet Volt platform and shared some components with the Volt. The ELR was introduced as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show in 2009 and later went into production as a limited-edition model.

Features and details about the Cadillac ELR:

  1. Design: The Cadillac ELR featured a sleek and modern design, with a coupe-like body style. It embodied Cadillac's Art and Science design language, showcasing sharp lines and a distinctive front grille.

  2. Powertrain: The ELR was powered by an extended-range electric powertrain. It had a lithium-ion battery pack that provided electric-only driving range, and a small gasoline engine acted as a generator to extend the total driving range when the battery was depleted.

  3. Electric Range: The electric-only range of the Cadillac ELR was around 37 miles (about 60 kilometers) on a full charge, depending on driving conditions and usage. After the battery was depleted, the gasoline engine would kick in, providing additional driving range.

  4. Performance: The ELR had a combined system output of around 233 horsepower and offered respectable acceleration and performance. While it wasn't a high-performance sports car, it provided a smooth and comfortable driving experience.

  5. Luxury Features: As expected from a Cadillac, the ELR offered a range of luxury amenities, including premium leather upholstery, advanced infotainment systems, high-quality materials, and cutting-edge technology.

  6. Limited Production: The Cadillac ELR was produced in limited quantities, making it a relatively rare model compared to other Cadillac vehicles.

  7. Discontinuation: Due to limited demand and a shift in consumer preferences towards all-electric vehicles, General Motors decided to discontinue the Cadillac ELR after just a few years of production. The last model year for the ELR was 2016.

Though the Cadillac ELR had a short production run, it represented Cadillac's foray into the electrified vehicle segment and showcased the brand's commitment to innovation and sustainable mobility. After the discontinuation of the ELR, Cadillac continued to develop and release new electric and plug-in hybrid models to meet the evolving demands of the automotive market.
